After a report of nearly 40 children becoming orphan due to COVID, the Government of India along with the District Child Welfare Committee decided to turn Pusha Gujral Nari Niketan into a Shelter Home for the helpless in Jalandhar.

“Until now we have obtained 40 such children but they are still under the custody of their guardians. Besides destitute, the Nari Niketan is open to those who have lost one of their parent to Covid. The Childline (1098) is also been opened to share such information with the officials”, said Ajay Bharti, District Child Protection Officer, Jalandhar, as quoted by The Tribune.

Gurjot Kaur, the general secretary of Pushpa Gujral Nari Niketan Trust shared that they take good care of the needy and at this time of ongoing pandemic they are even more considerate about the children victimized because of Covid. The trust also runs an adoption center, hence, those willing to adopt could apply online for the process, mentioned Kaur.
